The Romanian Association for International Cooperation and Development – ARCADIA in collaboration with the Department of Political Sciences of Babeș Bolyai University’s Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences is launching the present Call for Workshops for ARCADIA’s 3rd Annual Conference. The event will focus on CEE donors’ approach to delivering development results taking into consideration their interests translated in national strategies for international cooperation and development, implemented through different frameworks by a wide variety of actors. After approximately 10 years of paradigm shift from aid recipients to aid donors, the Annual conference of ARCADIA wants to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue reviewing the realities of development policies implemented by the new European donors so far and at the same time indentifying new opportunities and ways to advance development assistance.

Call for Workshops

The Romanian Association for International Cooperation and Development – ARCADIA in collaboration with the Department of Political Sciences of Babeș Bolyai University’s Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences is launching the present Call for Workshops for ARCADIA’s 3rd Annual Conference. The event will focus on CEE donors’ approach to delivering development results taking into consideration their interests translated in national strategies for international cooperation and development, implemented through different frameworks by a wide variety of actors. After approximately 10 years of paradigm shift from aid recipients to aid donors, the Annual conference of ARCADIA wants to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue reviewing the realities of development policies implemented by the new European donors so far and at the same time indentifying new opportunities and ways to advance development assistance.

Under the overarching topic, the workshops should aim at offering a praxis-oriented approach to the themes discussed through the academic panels in the conference and also at creating the space for dialogue and action-oriented discussions.

We invite practitioners either from the civil society, academia, government or local authorities sector, business or media to submit a workshop proposal until the 20th of May 2014. The proposal should be no longer than 1 page including the title of the workshop, the objectives,  the method used and a proposed methodology and should consider to be delivered to a group of 10 – 15 participants coming mainly from academia and NGO sector but also including representatives of other sectors mentioned.  In applying also consider also the following foci of our conference:

  •  Forging donor’s identity: connecting and voicing their democratic transition experiences, foreign policies, economic interest and development cooperation in agenda setting and practice at national and European level.
  • Facilitating development through regional cooperation initiatives: new actors, frameworks of cooperation and institutions
  • Building national capacity by encouraging synergies between different actors involved in the field of international development; Steps toward defining a collaborative vision for development policy;
  • CEE donors’ approach and contribution to the global development themes: climate change, gender, youth and civil society, conflict and peacebuilding, employment and the role of private sector in development.

Please submit your proposal or address any questions or concerns that you may have to conference@arcadianetwork.org There are no conference registration fees. The working language of the conference will be English.

ARCADIA will award a limited number of partial scholarships for covering the transportation costs and accommodation. If you want to apply for one of these scholarships please mention this in your application email and send us an estimated budget of the travel expenses.

The 3rd ARCADIA Conference is organized as part of the “Training Romanian young professionals in international development” project, financed by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the ODA budget and implemented by ARCADIA in partnership with UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre.

The event will focus on CEE donors’ approach to delivering development results taking into consideration their interests translated in national strategies for international cooperation and development, implemented through different frameworks by a wide variety of actors. After approximately 10 years of paradigm shift from aid recipients to aid donors, the Annual conference of ARCADIA wants to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue reviewing the realities of development policies implemented by the new European donors so far and at the same time indentifying new opportunities and ways to advance development assistance.

Under the overarching topic, the papers can focus on, yet are not limited to, one of the following areas and sub-themes:

  •  Forging donor’s identity: connecting and voicing their democratic transition experiences, foreign policies, economic interest and development cooperation in agenda setting and practice at national and European level.
  • Facilitating development through regional cooperation initiatives: new actors, frameworks of cooperation and institutions
  • Building national capacity by encouraging synergies between different actors involved in the field of international development; Steps toward defining a collaborative vision for development policy;
  • CEE donors’ approach and contribution to the global development themes: climate change, gender, youth and civil society, conflict and peacebuilding, employment and the role of private sector in development.

Academics, researchers, experts, young professionals, and students who have a special interest in these topics are invited to submit a paper proposal until 4th of April 2014  16th of April at conference@arcadianetwork.org.

There are no conference registration fees. The working language of the conference will be English.

All proposals should contain: paper title, name, affiliation and contacts of the person submitting the paper, a maximum of 300 words abstract and a short biography of the proponent. Please indicate “Paper Submission for ARCADIA Conference 2014” as the email subject. Accepted papers will be announced by 25th of April .

The full version (5000-8000 words)  of accepted papers should be submitted by 31st of May 2014.  A limited number of selected papers will be published in the winter edition of the Romanian Journal of Political Science.
